Hunting & Fishing PDF Print E-mail
Monroe County HuntingMonroe County offers abundant opportunities for fisherman, in the Cumberland River where a new boat ramp is now open near the Cumberland Ferry on Hwy. 214, as well as in Barren River and Tompkinsville’s City Lake. Both Dale Hollow Lake and Barren River Lake are located nearby, offering a wide variety of water sports.

Area woodlands are a hunter’s paradise, with deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit and dove among the abundant game.

For more information regarding licenses, seasons and regulations, contact the Kentucky Department for Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Monroe County Festivals PDF Print E-mail
Monroe County Heritage FestivalThe Monroe County Watermelon Festival brings more than 10,000 people to Tompkinsville on the Saturday before Labor Day each year. Featured are a Parade, Arts and Crafts Fair, 5-K and Fun Runs, Quilt Show, Art Show, Cruise-in, watermelon-related contests and a street dance at night.

Fountain Run hosts a Barbecue Festival on the third Saturday in May, with activities including a Parade, Fun Runs, Quilt Show and a Talent Show. Barbecue, of course, is the featured food.

The county’s newest festival is the Gamaliel Autumn Fest on the fourth Saturday in September. Special features include a Bed Race, Dog Show, Quilt Show and Car Show.
